Navigating Regional Center services can feel complex and overwhelming. My role as your Advocate  is to simplify that complexity and provide a clear path forward. I partner with you to build the skills and confidence you need to become an independent, effective advocate for your family. My services are designed to build your capability, not create dependency 

General Facilitation & Advocacy

I provide essential support in understanding and navigating the complexities of the Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act, including both SDP and traditional Regional Center requirements. My general services include:

• Attending team planning meetings and phone consultations to ensure consistent communication.

• Reviewing DDS/Regional Center documents and correspondence to keep you informed.

• Analyzing individual needs and desires to identify current obstacles and opportunities.

• Coordinating with your multidisciplinary team, including your Service Coordinator, service providers, and Financial Management Services (FMS), to ensure seamless support within both SDP and traditional services.

Person-Centered Planning (PCP)

At the heart of my approach is Person-Centered Planning, which ensures all services are tailored to the individual's unique life. This involves:

• Scheduling and facilitating meetings to clearly identify your needs, goals, and desired services.

• Developing detailed PCP reports that highlight your strengths, capabilities, preferences, lifestyle, and cultural values. These reports are crucial for informing and shaping your Individual Program Plan (IPP).

Self-Determination Program (SDP) Management

I specialize in helping you maximize the benefits of the Self-Determination Program, offering hands-on support with:

• Spending Plan Development: This includes clarifying SDP service code definitions, outlining steps to acquire a certified budget, and explaining how your Spending Plan is created.

• 12-Month SDP Budget Management: You receive dedicated, ongoing support to ensure you are confidently and effectively using your SDP funds  and leverage generic resources.

• Budgeting & Expenditure Tracking: You will gain a clear understanding of your budget and learn to track expenditures with ease, giving you full control over your funds .

• Service & Support Coordination: This involves assisting with finding and hiring service providers or agencies, and negotiating staff pay or provider rates to align with your SDP budget.

• Staff Management Support: I offer basic information on provider qualifications and payment rules, and help you manage your staff (e.g., setting expectations, managing hours, and coordinating timely submissions with FMS and the Regional Center).

Family and Friends Facilitator Training  *NEW*

I believe the most powerful and effective advocates are those who are closest to the individual—the family, friends, and loved ones who are emotionally invested in their success. This mentorship program is designed to transform that love and dedication into strategic, confident advocacy. I will personally guide you through the complexities of the system, equipping you with the insider knowledge and practical skills needed to become the best possible Independent Facilitator for your loved one. 

What This Mentorship Program Includes:

This is a comprehensive training and support program where you will learn to master the system and advocate with confidence.

• Core Curriculum: A structured learning path covering everything you need to know, including the Lanterman Act, the IPP format and process, understanding Purchase of Service (POS) guidelines, and the critical difference between utilization and just asking for services.

• "Insider's Guide" to the Regional Center: You'll gain a deep understanding of how Regional Centers truly operate, including their role as DDS contractors, the function of resource group reviews, and how to effectively navigate the bureaucracy.

• Ongoing Support & Strategic Oversight: This is more than just a class. I provide continuous support and supervision as you begin your journey. We will have regular check-ins to brainstorm solutions, troubleshoot challenges, and ensure every action you take is in the best interest of the individual receiving services.
